The Turnover Standard That Keeps Airbnb Reviews at Five Stars
Guests forgive a lot. They don't forgive hair in the shower drain. A repeatable turnover standard is the cheapest rating protection a host can buy.

Cleanliness is the review category you can fully control
Location, layout and neighborhood noise are mostly fixed. Cleanliness is different. It depends on process, and a process can be made repeatable. Hosts who slip from five stars usually didn't get worse at cleaning; they became less consistent.
Turnover is a reset, not a cleaning
A house cleaning makes a space clean. A turnover returns a space to a defined state. Those are different goals, and the second one requires a reference.
Build that reference once: photograph every room exactly as it should look at check-in: pillow arrangement, throw placement, remote position, tray contents, towel fold. That photo set is what a crew cleans toward. Without it, every turn is somebody's interpretation.
The turnover checklist
Strip and reset
- All bedding stripped and replaced with clean linens
- Linens inspected for stains, tears and makeup marks before they go back in rotation
- Towels replaced and folded to the standard in your photos
- Trash removed from every room and bins re-lined
Kitchen
- Refrigerator and pantry cleared of guest leftovers and expired items
- Dishes washed, dried and returned to their positions instead of left in the rack
- Microwave, oven, stovetop and refrigerator interior cleaned
- Counters, sink and cabinet fronts disinfected
- Coffee, filters, dish soap, sponges and paper towels restocked
Bathrooms
- Shower drain checked and cleared, since hair in the drain is one of the most common cleanliness complaints
- Toilet, shower, tub, sink and counter disinfected
- Mirrors and glass polished streak-free
- Toilet paper, soap and amenities restocked to full
- Checked for mold, leaks and water stains
Whole unit
- High-touch items disinfected: remotes, light switches, door handles, thermostat, keypads
- Under beds and behind nightstands checked for left-behind items
- Furniture and decor returned to photographed positions
- Thermostat set for arrival season
- Windows and blinds set to the standard look
The report matters as much as the clean
Every turn should produce information: what was damaged, what's missing, what's running low, what a guest complained about in person. A crew that cleans silently leaves you finding out from the next guest's review instead of from a photo the same afternoon.
Consumables run out faster than hosts plan for
Track par levels for toilet paper, paper towels, soap, dish detergent, trash bags, coffee and laundry supplies, and restock to par on every turn rather than when someone notices. Running out mid-stay generates a message, and messages generate mentions in reviews.
When to bring in a professional crew
One unit with generous gaps between bookings is manageable alone. Two or more units, back-to-back same-day turns, or a listing you don't live near is where consistency starts to slip, and consistency is what protects your rating. Our Airbnb and turnover cleaning works from your reset photos and follows a structured checklist on every turn. Tell us about your property and we'll build the schedule around your calendar.
